What We’re Backing at R3sidency in 2025

Since we announced the R3sidency accelerator with Coinbase/Base, Animoca, and Founders Factory, a common question has been: what sectors are we most excited about backing right now?

My honest answer: I’m most excited to see what founders are actually excited to build and what themes emerge in our applications data.

That said, here’s a practical framework for thinking about where opportunities exist. In 2025, crypto has categories with clear product-market fit and categories that are still frontier territory.

The opportunity, and your pitch, looks different depending on which you're building in:

Where PMF exists today

These categories have well funded, scaled players with real user adoption. These are areas we point to when people outside crypto ask “what’s real here?” There is still room for innovation here but founders need a good answer to why they’re different from incumbents and how they’ll win.

This can involve either:

Here’s how we see the landscape today:

Where technology is ready but markets are forming

While the categories above have proven business models and scaled companies, the following areas represent emerging opportunities where the technology has matured but killer applications are still being discovered. Founders can find an edge by thinking of what technologies have matured, giving a “why now” argument for their product, and what it can be used for. These areas may have funding and experiments underway, but best practices aren’t set and adoption is wide open.

This framework reflects where we see the market today, but the most exciting part of R3sidency is discovering what we're missing. Whether you're tackling an established category with a novel approach or pioneering entirely new territory, we want to hear from you. Applications are open until November 21st and our program starts in January 2026.
